More Amazon observations

Books Books Books Continuing my series of observations about selling books on Amazon, today I’ll share what my best sellers are:

  • Out of print niche books. These sell for at or more cover price, so long as they were never very popular. Today I sold a 15 year old paperback, not even printed on acid-free paper. I paid $12. I sold it for $99. Wow.
  • DVDs. These sell for at least 1/2 cover, no matter how old.
  • A Pimsleur language CD set. This was a 16-cd set, which sells new for $400. On eBay they sell for only about $80. I sold mine for $160. That was a bit surprising.
  • Computer books. They rarely sell for cover price, but they often sell for half or a bit more. That’s pretty good for books I have no intention of ever reading again.

I need to list another box or two of books. My sales have slowed down to about three a day from a peak of six a day. I have about 90 remaining books active, but another 16 or so boxes to list.
