Continuing with the Prosperity Game, it is getting both more difficult and more interesting for me. At this dollar range, I start thinking of things I often haven’t even priced, since "it would just make me depressed."
For example, I don’t really know how much it would cost to renovate, repaint, shore-up the foundation, and run power to my barn. It is a big barn, so I suppose it would cost thousands, but is that $2,000, or is it $10,000? My wife and I have been talking about our dream to renovate the barn into a 3-season guest house ever since we bought the property. But yet, we don’t have a clue to within $8,000 of how much it will cost.
That’s what I’m now calling "The Dream Gap", and it comes from keeping our eyes on the ground, or on next month, or just a few months out. I’m trying to lift my eyes and really see where I want to go. I’m working at it, or rather I should say with this game that I’m playing at it.
Day 5, $5000
Starting at a balance of $0 in the First Dream Bank, I am depositing $5000 today.
Today’s dream spend:
- $5000 - 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible. Ha! Today’s dream purchase is easy to pick. $5,000 for a $48,000 car? Yup, if I won the American Express wishlist contest coming up tomorrow. How fun.
